The New Century Chamber Orchestra, celebrating its 20th-anniversary season, is a conductorless ensemble, but not without its Italian-born superstar leader: violinist and music director Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg.

On Our Way: The Journey of Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and the New Century Chamber Orchestra details the superstar fiddler’s association, since 2008, with the NCCO (surprisingly, she had never heard of the Grammy-nominated group before being approached to head it) through press conference footage and backstage interviews, and a 2011 concert at the Eli and Edyth Broad Stage in Santa Monica.

When she refers to the NCCO as “my orchestra,” take her to heart—the NCCO is conductorless but in no way leaderless. The performances include Wolf’s delightful Italian Serenade, Piazzolla’s bombastic Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings in C major, Op. 48.

Pure joy!
