Tokyo Quartet Releases Schubert Quintet

Following their acclaimed Beethoven cycle, the members of the Tokyo String Quartet are joined by cellist David Watkin in a reading of Schubert’s Quintet in C major, the last and perhaps the most haunting of all his chamber works, in which light and shadow, serenity and drama are presented in constant alternation. The program includes the Quartettsatz of 1820 with its fragmentary slow movement. In its review of the performance, Classical Voice opined: “There was a real sense of occasion throughout this performance, the players communicating closely and bringing through the piece’s range of emotions, whether brief outbursts of joy or inner moments of doubt.” Learn more at tokyoquartet.com.
