Stradivari Society Makes New Loans

Violinist Philippe Quint takes a turn with 'Ruby' ?

Two-time Grammy-nominated violinist Philippe Quint has just begun a long-term relationship with the famous 1708 “Ruby” Stradivari, so named for its striking, well-preserved varnish. The instrument is on loan from the Stradivari Society. For the past five years, Quint has had use of the 1723 “Ex-Kiesewetter” Strad, also from the society. But Quint received the new violin just in time for a 34-city, three-continent tour. “Philippe is a one-of-a-kind artist,” says Suzanne Fushi of the Stradivari Society. “We are delighted that he has agreed to write the next chapter in the life of this historic instrument.”

Other new recipients of Stradivari Society instruments include Sandy Cameron, Yi-Jia, Susanne Hou, Yossif Ivanov, Ilya Kaler, Kyoko Takezawa, Elena Urioste, and Wendy Warner. Violin dealer Geoffrey Fushi and patron Mary Galvin co-founded the Chicago-based Stradivari Society in 1985. The society promotes the careers of promising classical-music artists by arranging the use of fine Italian instruments on which to establish their careers.
