Sony Signs Recording Deal with Emerson String Quartet

Mozart’s last three string quartets will be released in November

The Emerson String Quartet has signed a recording contract with Sony Classical. The quartet’s debut album for the label, Mozart’s “Prussian” Quartets, K. 575, K. 589, and K. 590—Mozart’s last three string quartets—will be released in November to coincide with a series of concerts at Wigmore Hall in London and Alice Tully Hall in New York City.

The quartet also plans to record Schoenberg’s “Verklaerte Nacht” and Brahms’ String Quintet in G, Op. 111, in 2012.

“Superlatives are not always used cautiously enough in classical music but for me, the Emerson String Quartet is quite simply the world’s most important string quartet,” Sony Classical president Bogdan Roscic says. emersonquartet.com
