Seattle Symphony Cellist David Tonkonogui ? Dies

 

 

Seattle Symphony cellist David Tonkonogui, 45, died in November after battling cancer. He was a member of the Moscow State Orchestra and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra and coprincipal cellist with the Moscow Soloists Chamber Orchestra before emigrating to the United States in 1989. In 1990, he joined the Seattle Symphony. Three years later, Tonkonogui cofounded the Bridge Ensemble, a quartet composed of two Russians and two Americans. He also performed as a soloist with the Northwest Sinfonietta and other orchestras.
