Mikhail Simonyan Wins Young Artist of the Year Award
Australian composer Brett Dean wins Grawemeyer award for composition
The Classical Recording Foundation has named violinist Mikhail Simonyan Young Artist of the Year for his album, Prokofiev Sonatas for Violin and Piano (Delos).
A work commissioned by the Cologne Philharmonie and Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra for violinist Frank Peter Zimmerman has won the 2009 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition. The Lost Art of Letter Writing, a four-movement concerto for violin and orchestra, was written by Australian composer Brett Dean, who conducted the premiere in 2007. The award carries a $200,000 prize.
