Matt Haimovitz with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra premieres Philip Glass’ Cello Concerto No. 2, “Naqoyqatsi,”

Plus, Orchestra for a New Century makes its debut

In March, Matt Haimovitz with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra premiered Philip Glass’ Cello Concerto No. 2, “Naqoyqatsi,” inspired by Glass’ film score to the Godfrey Reggio 2002 film of the same name.  •  Ten years after the demise of his acclaimed Hoboken Chamber Orchestra, music director Gary Schneider in April debuted Orchestra for a New Century. The concert featured a violin concerto by Daniel Schnyder, with Francesca Andereggas the soloist. •  A springtime Broadway production of Carrie at the Lucille Lortel Theatre received mixed reviews when it moved the orchestra out of the pit and into a space two floors above the stage. The musicians at Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark already were similarly crammed into a remote basement space.
