Garmany Chamber Music Series Wraps Up This Weekend, Announces Next Season
A chamber-music series that showcases visiting artists wraps up its current season with a performance by cellist Carter Brey and pianist/radio host Christopher O’Riley. The show, hosted at the University of Hartford as part of the Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series, is scheduled for April 19 at the university’s performing arts school, and features a pre-concert dinner.
If either of those performers’ names sound familiar, it’s because both Brey and O’Riley have high-profile gigs in the classical music world. Brey is the principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic, as well as an active soloist and chamber player, while O’Riley hosts From the Top, the long-running weekly radio program on National Public Radio that champions young classical musicians from around the country. The Garmany Series also recently announced performers for its 2012–13 season: Tempesta di Mare (Philadelphia Baroque Orchestra) on October 18; eighth blackbird on November 15; Imani Winds on February 21, 2013; and Miró Quartet with special guest percussionist Colin Currie, on April 4, 2013.
