Bang on a Can All-Stars Play NYC
The Bang on a Can All-Stars perfom the first New York City concert of its 25th season on November 5 at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall with music by Louis Andriessen, Michael Gordon, David Lang, Lukas Ligeti, David Longstreth, and Kate Moore. This electric chamber music ensemble will perform the New York premieres of Andriessen’s Life (with film by Marijke Van Warmerdam), which was postponed from a previous season due to the unpronounceable volcano in Iceland, and David Lang’s sunray, plus Michael Gordon’s for Madeline, Kate Moore’s Ridgeway, three pieces commissioned by Bang on a Can from David Longstreth of the Dirty Projectors (Instructional Video, Matt Damon, Breakfast at J&M), and Lukas Ligeti’s Glamour Girl. Recordings of these works and more appear on the All-Stars’ first studio album in five years: a two-CD set titled Big Beautiful Dark and Scary, to be released on Cantaloupe Music in January. The Bang on a Can All-Stars (Ashley Bathgate, cello; Robert Black, bass; Vicky Chow, piano; David Cossin, percussion; Derek Johnson, electric guitar; and Evan Ziporyn, clarinets) were formed in 1992 by new music collective Bang on a Can and are now recognized worldwide for their dynamic live performances and recordings of today’s most innovative music. This season’s tour schedule takes them to Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Amsterdam, Bordeaux, London, Moscow, Glasgow, and many other places throughout the United States and internationally.
