2005 Sphinx Winners Announced

The Sphinx Organization, which helps promote the careers of young African-American and Hispanic string players, has announced the winners of its 2005 competition held in Detroit. Senior division winners were: first place, Christina Castelli, 26, violin (Castelli was a previous first-place laureate in the inaugural competition back in 1998); second place, Mariana Green-Hill, 26, violin; third place, Christopher Jenkins, 25, viola; and Achievement Award, Gareth Johnson, 19, violin. Junior division winners were: first place, Rachel Goldberg (shown here), 13, viola; second place, Tony Rymer, 15, cello; third place, Mia Barcia-Colombo, 17, cello; and Achievement Award, Maia Cabeza, 12, violin.
