Marylou Speaker Churchill, former principal second violinist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra and teacher at the New England Conservatory, has died. She was 64.  “You could bring her any problem, and she would make you realize it didn’t really exist,” BSO violinist Jason Horowitz told the Boston Globe. “And I’m not only talking violin or music—that was her magic with everything that she touched.” necmusic.edu

Musical Suppers

The New York Philharmonic will begin its new Musical Suppers series on January 8. The series will feature four post-concert dinners created by chefs including Daniel Boulud, Lidia Bastianich, Alain Ducasse, and Jean-Georges Vongerichten. “To follow the musical artistry of a New York Philharmonic concert with a culinary encore created by masters of their profession is a unique pleasure that one can only experience in New York,” NY Phil president Zarin Mehta says. Members of the Philharmonic, guest artists, and music director Alan Gilbert will attend the suppers. nyphil.org
