Community MusicWorks, a nonprofit organization employing professional string musicians as teachers, mentors, and allies of at-risk youth in Providence, Rhode Island, has a 90 percent retention rate.

How much practice time does Christian Tetzlaff need?
When I am at home, I practice very little, usually no more than an hour and a half a day. Neither the Guy-Bon Yi nor the Ruzicka concerto was very difficult, and the Ligeti—well, I did practice a couple of hours a day while I was learning that!

Enjoy These Familiar American Fiddle Tunes . . . with a Twist
“Red-Haired Boy” is a traditional Irish reel that has become a standard tune in the American old-time and bluegrass musicians’ repertoire. This arrangement combines nontraditional phrase structures and an extended introduction as well as syncopated accompaniment patterns and variations on the basic melody.

What to Do When Things Just Don’t Sound Right
You might notice when you do go in to have your instrument looked at that your repairman is interested in what you’ve been up to. Repairmen really do take a personal interest in their clientele—they’re like an extended family.
