Eric Allen's 'Success in All Keys for Violin'
Edited by Elizabeth Coffman. Versions also available for viola, cello, and double bass. Better Bands and Orchestras, $19.95.
This new book offers a practical approach to playing in all the key signatures on the violin. The default approach most teachers use while teaching their students to play in new keys usually involves practicing scales and patterns and can be boring for the student.
This edition strives to eliminate the monotony by providing two pages of excerpts (from well-known works by such composers as Beethoven and Mouret) along with an original étude for every key. Also, the more advanced keys (with more than three sharps or flats) include three additional original études.
