Polish cellist Dariusz Skoraczewski appointed to the BSO & more
Polish cellist Dariusz Skoraczewski has been appointed principal cellist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Skoraczewski has played in the BSO since 2000 and has been assistant principal cellist for 10 years. He also plays in the Monument Piano Trio.
Violinist and violist Edith Eisler—chamber player, concert presenter, teacher, and longtime Strings contributor—died July 18 at her Manhattan home. She was 86.
Old-time fiddler and composer Benton Flippen, a monumental figure who was revered for his unique sound and mastery of the Round Peak style, died June 28 in Mount Airy, North Carolina. He was 90.
Romanian-born cellist Wolfgang Laufer, a member of the venerable Fine Arts Quartet, died June 8 from lymphoma. He was 64.
