As spring auctions of fine instruments and bows moved to the United States, record-setting prices followed for many makers. As always, if you’re selling an instrument, it helps if it has an Italian name—this time around one name kept popping up and setting new records, Testore. Instruments by the 18th-century Milanese brothers Carlo Antonio Testore (1693–ca. 1765) and Paolo Antonio Testore (ca. 1700–1767) enjoyed a springtime buzz in the strings trade.
