Introducing Kids to Chamber Music
Chamber music teaches young students to listen beyond themselves
The Audio Trio recently made its public debut. The ensemble—comprised of my nephew violinist Benjamin, 10; and nieces, cellist Ariella, 9, and pianist Leora, 7—performed one of Brahms' Hungarian Dances, arranged for kid trio.
I'd first heard the trio perform in my parents' living room last Thanksgiving. Their subsequent tour launched at the public library in Teaneck, New Jersey, as a finale in a chamber-music concert in which their mother, a pianist, and grandparents Allan and Ellie Schiller—both violinists—had performed. The kid trio also performed in their Paramus, New Jersey, elementary and middle schools, and as special guest artists at their mom's students' piano recital.
