A Pro Explains How to Best Ship a Stringed Instrument

Learn to ensure safe delivery and peace of mind

Whether shipping instruments for repair, or shipping an instrument for a try-out from a violin shop across the country, or shipping an entry for a violin-making competition, chances are you will have to ship a stringed instrument someday.

Here’s a primer from Wise on how to make sure your instrument arrives in perfect condition, and how to improve your chances of winning an insurance claim if it doesn’t.

Yes I shipped two violins through UPS and was a much better idea to ship them rather carry through bus terminals and the like when traveling. The suggestion of wrapping the tailpiece if not remove completely is smart as well. Not that the baggage handlers are careless and losing violins and things but for piece of mind that you will not have to do a inopportune performance while others may be loosing their place in line to catch their connections.
Worse case that someone will come to you with a comment like "hey you sound really y great but after stopping to listen I have missed my bus, so can you help me, now?"
Yah shipping such a good idea.
Thanx
