15 Tips on Creating a Musical Production
It's not for the faint of heart, but you can create a successful stage show
As an experienced string player, I thought, sure, I can do a musical theater production. Luckily, I had read The Art of War, Sun Tzu’s ancient guide to strategy, but nothing could really prepare me for the slew of details involved in creating my current production, Rouge, a circus-style band that plays original material. Little did I realize exactly how much work is involved in getting a stage production off the ground, and even more so, keeping the buzz going.
The technical and logistical challenges—including touring, booking, marketing, and production duties—are much more involved than sitting down in a quiet chair and practicing a Henryk Wieniawski violin piece or writing an arrangement of a pop tune, which is what brought me to musical production in the first place.
