For many years, I thought only pianists played the piano; trumpet players played trumpet, saxophone players played saxophone, violinists, cellists, flutes, etc. But now I know: the piano is the entire orchestra right in front of you. Understand, you do not have to be a pianist or become one, unless this comes naturally to you. However, the piano can teach you how groupings of sounds are made and how a melody fits the harmony. This information helps us get inside the music and makes our performances more musical, instead of just playing the notes on the page.
