Elektra Performance System
A software program for converting your electric signal into MIDI data
Using an analog signal from your acoustic or electric violin or viola pickup, a new software program called the eLektra Performance System will convert your signal into MIDI data. This program, which is available from the Electric Violin Shop in Durham, North Carolina, is entirely software-based and helps users create and build libraries of sounds that they can access for performances and recordings. If you like to process your instrument’s signal, this could mean hauling around a lot fewer pieces of hardware, like effect pedals. EVS claims that latency—the delay between input and output during signal processing—is considerably lower than earlier MIDI systems. The program can track from the normal range of a violin down to a viola’s low C. The system requires a PC running recent Windows platforms and an instrument with USB audio interface.
