Pirastro fills in its Passione string line with a new set of solo bass strings. For solo performances, classical soloists frequently tune up to F# B E A, one full-step above standard orchestral tuning. Protecting your bass from too much tension on the top, while providing a familiar feel in this higher pitch, requires a specialized string with lower tension. The new Pirastro Passione Solo-Tuning strings feature steel rope-core with chrome steel wraps. String spotters can look for white windings with a brown spiral at the tailpiece end of the string.
