A Hybrid Bow from Eastman

The Eastman Strings' Cadenza Master 305 is a silver-mounted carbon-fiber bow encased in a pernambuco veneer. New to Eastman, these bows combine the durability of carbon fiber with the classic appearance of a traditional wooden bow. Available for violin, viola, and cello. The violin and viola bows sent to us for trial were on the strong side, giving a loud, clear, if not too complex tone. The viola bow handled particularly well, smooth on the long bows but quick to bounce when asked. The violin bow had a bit of a wobble, but still produced a good, clear tone. Cadenza Master 305 bows (MSRP), violin: $662.50; viola, $737.50; cello, $812.50. To locate a dealer near you, visit eastmanstrings.com.

I bought one of these Eastman Cadenza Bows, model 305, for cello. I just love it and I deeply recommend it, not only for advanced students, but for professional players as a spare bow. It delivers a broad, powerful and clear sound. Very well balanced, it gets the core of the sound. I have some other carbon fiber bows, and it really seems that the pernambuco finish of this bow can deliver a rounder, warmer sound. I now this can be very subjective, but that is my general feeling. The bow it's now much low-priced. I got mine for a somehting less than $700 dollars. The only faults I can tell about this bow is that just, after a few hours playing, the tip bone came loose and I had to get it glued by a respected bowmaker. Maybe bad luck, but nothing serious at all. Another detail is that the method of engraving their trade name on the bow is not so successful at all. It erases after some hours playing. This are just suggestions for Eastman Strings Company to improve the finished product process in this bow, because is a great bow and it deserves to be perfect.
